Ecuador elects Daniel Noboa as its new president

Quito: Ecuador has elected Daniel Noboa from the right-wing National Democratic Action coalition as its new president, amid a wave of violence and a worsening security situation. Citing preliminary official results of Sunday's presidential runoff, the National Electoral Council (CNE) said Noboa received 52.29 percent of the vote, while his rival Luisa Gonzalez received 47.71 percent.

The results were declared after counting of 90.78 percent votes. On Sunday night, CNE president Diana Attament confirmed that the results were "irreversible" and declared Noboa the new president of the South American country. More than 10 million people voted amid tight security measures across the country.

According to the report, 35-year-old Noboah has promised to create more work opportunities for the youth; There has also been talk of bringing in more foreign investment while using technology to fight crime. Speaking to reporters after the results late on Sunday night, Noboah thanked his wife, parents and God for giving him the opportunity to serve his country.
