Delhi: Assembly elections are going to be held in five states of the country - Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana by the end of this year. Regarding this, the Election Commission has called a press conference today at 12 noon in which the election dates will be announced.
Earlier on Friday, the Election Commission had a meeting with the observers under the chairmanship of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, in which the Election Commissioner had said that - We have to decide that assembly elections are going to be held in five states and in these elections we should pay attention. It has to be ensured that no one can influence the voters with money power or muscle power. He had instructed the observers that we have to take special care that the model code is effectively implemented in the elections and that the elections are completely violence free.
Today, in the press conference of the Election Commission, complete details of the dates of various stages of the electoral process including filing of nominations by candidates, announcement of polling dates and counting of votes will be given. Let us tell you that the tenure of the Legislative Assemblies in Telangana, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh is going to end on different dates in January 2024, while the tenure of Mizoram Assembly will end on December 17 this year.
According to information received from sources, voting can be held in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram and Telangana in a single phase like 2018 and in Chhattisgarh too, like last time, voting is likely to be held in two phases. It is also being said that the voting dates may be different in the five states but the counting of votes may take place simultaneously between December 10 and 15.
At the same time, the 2024 Lok Sabha elections are also just a few months away. The results of the upcoming assembly elections will decide the political scenario of the country not only at the state level but also at the national level.
