Bhopal   . A big scam has been exposed in Madhya Pradesh, in which the beer sent back from Chhattisgarh due to expiry date was sold in the market of MP. To suppress this matter, the Excise Department claimed to have destroyed the beer and issued a press note. In the press note, the Excise Department stated the value of the destroyed beer to be around Rs 4 crore 20 lakh, while the actual value is more than Rs 13 crore 22 lakh. In this case, questions are being raised on the functioning of the Excise Department and the Chief Secretary has ordered an inquiry into it. The matter has now reached the top officials.

Expired beer worth Rs 13 crore sold in MP
Actually, a case has come to light of Som Company's expired beer worth Rs 13 crore sent back from Chhattisgarh being sold in the market of Madhya Pradesh. To suppress the matter, the Excise Department showed the destruction of beer in the records. A press note was also issued for this. The actual cost of the beer is Rs 13 crore 22 lakh, but the department stated the cost of destruction as Rs 4 crore 20 lakh.

Beer was sent to Chhattisgarh in 50 trucks
Let us tell you that Som Company's Hunter beer was sent from Madhya Pradesh to Chhattisgarh in 50 trucks. The expiry date of a total of 55,090 crates of beer had passed, so it was sent back to Madhya Pradesh in September 2024. But permission was not taken from the Excise Commissioner to bring back the beer from Chhattisgarh and then it was sold in the liquor shops of Madhya Pradesh. To suppress the matter, the District Excise Officer in charge of Raisen of the Excise Department issued a press release claiming that this beer was destroyed on 21 January 2025.

It was told in the records that the destroyed
beer was claimed four months after it was brought back that in a single day, about 55,090 crates i.e. about 50 truckloads of beer were destroyed in a few hours, which is unrealistic. Regarding this matter, the Excise Commissioner had also issued a notice to the District Excise Officer in charge of Raisen in September 2024.

Notice may be issued
The matter of selling expired beer in the market has now come to the notice of Chief Secretary Anurag Jain. According to sources, questions may arise on the role of the Excise Commissioner in this matter and a notice may be issued to him.
