Faheem Khan's background and conspiracy
Faheem Shamim Khan is the Nagpur city president of the Minority Democratic Party (MDP).
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he contested against Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, but lost.
After losing the election, he was trying to strengthen his political hold in the city.
Police investigation has revealed that the conspiracy of violence was planned in advance.
An attempt was made to incite riots in a planned manner by gathering fundamentalists.
Incident of Nagpur violence
Violence broke out after a dispute over Aurangzeb's tomb. The situation worsened after a dispute between two groups in Mahal area of Nagpur on Monday night.
Violence also spread in Hanspuri area late at night.
Unknown people vandalized and set fire to shops and vehicles.
The mob pelted stones heavily, injuring many people.
More than 60 rioters were detained.
Curfew was imposed in many areas to control the situation.
Film 'Chhava' and Aurangzeb controversy
After the release of actor Vicky Kaushal's film 'Chhava', the issue of Aurangzeb again heated up. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had talked about removing Aurangzeb's tomb.
Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi increased the controversy by calling Aurangzeb a good ruler.
Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal had threatened that if the government does not remove the grave, there will be a fate like Babri.
Faheem Khan sent to police custody till March 21
Nagpur police produced Faheem Khan in court, where he was sent to police custody till March 21. Police claim that he was the main hand in inciting violence and further investigation is on.
