Raipur Police has arrested Suraj Dubey, who was running online betting in Thana Ganj area during the Champions Trophy match between India and Australia. This action was taken by a joint team of Anti Crime and Cyber Unit and Thana Ganj Police as per the instructions of senior officers of Raipur Police.
On March 4, Anti Crime and Cyber Unit received information that a person was running online betting near Station Road Naharpara. On receiving the information, the team acted promptly and identified and caught the person matching the description.
During interrogation, the accused revealed his name as Suraj Dubey (44 years), resident of Ganj, Raipur. When the team examined the mobile phone found with him, it was confirmed that he was operating online betting on the Champions Trophy match between India and Australia through ID and calls.
The police arrested the accused Suraj Dubey and seized two mobile phones and Rs 54,000 in cash from his possession, the total value of which is estimated to be around Rs 70,000. A case has been registered against the accused under section 4(a) of Chhattisgarh Gambling Prohibition Act 2022 and section 7 of Gambling Act under crime number 63/2025 at Thana Ganj.
In this action, Inspector in-charge of Anti Crime and Cyber Unit Paresh Kumar Pandey, Sub Inspector Mukesh Sori, Head Constable Anup Mishra, Constable Himanshu Rathore and Vijay Banjare played an important role.
Raipur Police has appealed to the public that if they get information about gambling, betting or other illegal activities anywhere, they should inform the police, so that crime can be controlled in the city.
