Gaza At least 235 people were killed in air strikes carried out by Israel on the Gaza Strip on Tuesday morning. Gaza's Health Ministry has described it as the most horrific attack since the ceasefire. Several schools and refugee camps were also targeted in the attack, causing a large number of civilian casualties.
Netanyahu said - attacks are necessary, Hamas opposed
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that there was no concrete progress in the talks to extend the ceasefire, so military action was ordered. Netanyahu's office issued a statement saying that Israel will now intensify its attacks against Hamas.
On the other hand, Hamas termed the attack as a violation of the ceasefire and said that it could endanger the lives of the hostages. Hamas accused Israel of derailing the peace talks.
Devastation in Gaza, schools also attacked
After the attack, Palestinian officials said that refugee camps and a school were also targeted in the Bureji area. Before the Israeli action, food supplies, medicines and fuel were stopped in Gaza, leading to famine like conditions.
Hamas spokesman said that 24 Israeli hostages are still in their custody, while 35 other hostages are feared dead.
Attacks in Syria and Lebanon too
Apart from Gaza, Israel also carried out air strikes in Syria and Lebanon. Residential areas in Syria's Daraa area were bombed, while in Lebanon, two Hezbollah terrorists have been claimed to have been killed.
Advice was taken from the White House
Before the attack, Israel had consulted the White House. US Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said, "Hamas, Houthis and Iran will have to pay the price for terrorizing America and Israel."
The situation remains tense, while possible peace talks between Israel and Hamas are in limbo.
