New Delhi The National Medical Commission (NMC) has taken a big step against the evaluator doctors involved in bribery in the name of getting medical colleges recognized. After the CBI investigation and arrest, the commission has blacklisted the doctors found guilty and all the recognition processes of the concerned medical college for the upcoming session have been canceled.
Big disclosure in CBI investigation, deal of 10 lakhs in bribe
The case is of May when CBI arrested a senior evaluator doctor taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a private medical college in Karnataka. In this case, six people including three doctors were arrested and raids were conducted at more than 42 locations across the country, in which the name of Shri Rawatpura Sarkar Medical College, Raipur of Chhattisgarh also came to the fore.
According to the CBI report, the gang used to take a hefty amount to change the negative report of the National Medical Commission into a positive one. These evaluators used to prepare favorable reports in connivance with the medical college management.
Strict decision of NMC: Recognition, new seats and courses canceled
The National Medical Commission blacklisted the guilty evaluator doctors. Cancelled renewal of all UG/PG seats of the concerned college for the 2025-26 session. Rejected all proposals for new courses and seat increase. The evaluation process has been stopped till the investigation is completed.
How are evaluators selected?
NMC appoints senior faculty members of government medical colleges across the country for evaluation under a random process. These members voluntarily inspect and prepare reports for the commission.
Zero tolerance on corruption: The NMC
Commission has clearly stated that it does not tolerate corruption. If any doctor, institution or officer is found guilty, then NMC has the right to impose financial penalty, reduce seats, ban courses or recommend action under government service rules.
Big network, big investigation
CBI has revealed that an organized gang is working in the name of getting medical colleges recognized across the country. Important documents have been seized during raids in Chhattisgarh, Delhi, UP, MP, Rajasthan and Karnataka. It is believed that more arrests and big names may also come to light in the future.
